Are Autumn Foliage Forecasts Accurate?
Not always. Autumn colors are easier to plan as the viewing period lasts 1.5–2 weeks and changes gradually. For Tokyo and Kyoto, the best timing is usually late November to early December, but recent warm weather has sometimes pushed the peak later. If your timing is off, consider nearby mountain areas or northern destinations, where colors change earlier.
What Should I Wear in Japan During Autumn? Do I Need a Down Jacket?
Autumn weather in Japan can change a lot between day and night. During the day, temperatures are often comfortable around 15–20°C, but evenings can feel much cooler after sunset. The best approach is layering. Bring a light down jacket or windbreaker, plus sweaters or fleece layers that you can add or remove easily
Is Kyoto Too Crowded During Autumn Foliage Season?
Popular places like Kiyomizu-dera and Arashiyama can be very busy during peak season, but you can still enjoy Kyoto with the right timing. Visit popular spots early in the morning (around 7:00–8:00 am) and consider quieter temples or garden areas away from the main tourist routes.
