Where to Stay in Kyoto? - Kyoto Neighborhoods Map
Kyoto offers several great places to stay: Kawaramachi in the city center, Gion, near Kyoto Station, or around the Imperial Palace.
Kyoto neighborhoods and district MapWe recommend Kawaramachi, as it's in the heart of the city with plenty of dining and shopping options. You can also walk to Gion, Kyoto's historic district, in about 10 minutes.
If you prefer convenience and want easy access to Kyoto's major attractions, stay near Kyoto Station. From here, you can take the subway to explore Kyoto and take day trips to places like Arashiyama and Uji. Hotels here are also more affordable.
For a traditional experience, consider staying in Gion or near Kiyomizu-dera. This area offers ryokan-style accommodations, but prices tend to be higher.
If you're looking for a peaceful environment with rich culture and don't mind a bit of extra walking, the Imperial Palace area is a unique and tranquil choice.
Kyoto Transportation Map: How to Get Around Kyoto Easily
To save time, we recommend using a private car to explore Kyoto. If you're exploring on your own or on your free day, the subway and taxi are good options.
Kyoto Subway & Train Map
Kyoto subway and train mapKyoto has multiple subway lines that connect you to major sites. Staying near Kyoto Station makes it easy to hop on the subway. Just be aware that the station is large, so allow extra time to find your train.
If you travel with us and want to save on transport, our guide can take you around Kyoto by subway. We'll help you explore the city your way—based on your interests and your budget.
Explore Kyoto By Taxis
Taxis are a good choice if you prefer a more direct route. They can be a bit pricey (¥620 for the first 1.5 km), but they're convenient and easy to hail on the street or use via the Uber app. The cost is similar, but Uber is usually simpler to use.
During peak seasons like cherry blossoms or fall foliage, taxis can be harder to find.
We don't recommend taking public buses, as they're often crowded, with long lines at bus stops.
